Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 smartphone is rumored to feature a processor (A20) built on TSMC's 2nm process and 12GB of RAM, according to user "Smartphone Chip Expert".
In a recent post on Weibo, the leaker wrote:
The 2026 Apple iPhone will feature the A20 processor built on a 2nm process and adopt a new packaging method. APTS will shift from the previous InFo (Integrated Fan-Out) packaging to WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module) packaging. Additionally, the memory will be upgraded to 12GB, with the announcement made two years ahead of schedule.
WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module) packaging integrates multiple chips on a shared wafer for higher performance and faster communication. It enables tighter integration between the CPU, GPU, and memory, reducing latency, improving energy efficiency, and supporting more demanding features like advanced AI processing, high-refresh-rate displays, and better camera performance.
Notably, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will get 12GB of RAM; however, it is possible that the upgrade could be extended to more iPhone 18 models.
TSMC has already announced trial production of its 2nm technology. You can learn more about the new process here. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more iPhone updates.
