iFixit has posted its teardown of the new iPhone 16, revealing a new method for removing the smartphone's battery.
The iPhone 16 has had a huge internal redesign. With a new, highly repairable battery and improved thermal management, this is the coolest phone in the entire 16 lineup–in more ways than one.
Observations
● Internal Redesign: The iPhone 16 has a new L-shaped logic board and better thermal management, making it the coolest model in the lineup.
● Improved Repairability: Apple has introduced a highly repairable battery that can be removed with an electric current, simplifying the process significantly. The adhesive system, likely provided by Tesa, allows for clean battery removal.
● Camera Control Button: The new button replaces a mmWave antenna. It features a pressure sensor for detecting half and full presses and includes an integrated IC, making it more complex to repair.
● Part Compatibility: Many parts between the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are interchangeable, such as the speakers and Taptic Engine.
● Screen and USB-C Removal: The dual-entry system continues from the iPhone 14, making screen removal easier. However, USB-C replacement is not officially covered by Apple manuals.
