Apple is racing to get iOS 18.2 out by December, according to a new report from Mark Gurman. If successful, the release will bring some promised Apple Intelligence features to the new iPhone 16 lineup in time for the holiday shopping season.
Currently, Apple has seeded four betas of iOS 18.1 to developers. The update is relatively minor, introducing a redesigned connectivity section in Control Center and query suggestions in Type to Siri. iOS 18.1 will ship to all users in a few weeks.
Comparatively, iOS 18.2 will be a major upgrade with key features such as Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, and Image Playground. Gurman believes that Apple is working to get the bugs out of the update by November and ship the release by December.
The company is looking to get that release down to zero-bug status in early November so it can ship it by December. Other features in the works include notification prioritization on the lock screen and the new email app interface.
Following that release, Apple will focus on its iOS 18.3 and iOS 18.4. Those releases will likely introduce much anticipated updates to Siri; however, they will not arrive until next year.
After that, Apple wants to get iOS 18.3 complete by the end of the year, setting the stage for a January release. The biggest iOS 18 update after iOS 18.1 will be iOS 18.4, which will include many of the new Siri features (some are in consideration for iOS 18.3, I'm told). That's not scheduled to be released until March, following its completion in early February.
Despite the lack of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.0, there are many new features to check out. Take a look at the iOS 18 release notes here and check out this list of every new feature in iOS 18.
