Apple has introduced support for taking Spatial Photos on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max in iOS 18.1 beta 4.

Spatial Mode
Record spatial photos and videos with remarkable depth for viewing in the Photos app on Apple Vision Pro. For best results, keep iPhone in landscape orientation and stable while recording. Video is recorded at 30 fps at 1080p. A minute of spatial video is approximately 130MB. A spatial photo is approximately 5 MB.

Apple describes spatial photos and videos as a new type of stereoscopic content that immerses people in a moment and gives them a greater sense of presence in a scene. A spatial photo is a multi-image HEIC file containing a left-eye image and a right-eye image, a stereo pair group, plus spatial metadata. A spatial video is a QuickTime movie with a stereo MV-HEVC video track, plus spatial metadata.

To view spatial photos taken on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16, you'll need Vision Pro running visionOS 2.
