New details about the camera capabilities of the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro have allegedly been revealed in a new report from 9to5Mac. According to the site, Apple is planning to introduce the ability to record video in 4K 120fps for the first time.

When it comes to videos, iPhone 16 Pro will shoot videos in 4K resolution at 120fps for the first time (iPhone 15 is currently limited to 4K 60fps). When connected to external storage, users will be able to shoot ProRes 4K at 120fps. In addition, Apple is upgrading QuickTake from 1080p to 4K.

Notably, Apple has also been testing the ability to record 8K video. Both the wide lens and the new 48MP ultra wide lens on the iPhone 16 Pro would be capable of this; however, the telephoto lens would not. It's possible that Apple could save this feature for next year's iPhone and debut it alongside a resolution upgrade for the zoom lens.

Additional camera features said to launch this year include:
● support for the JPEG-XL format for capturing lossy and lossless photos
● pausing and resuming video recording in the Camera app
● removal of wind noise for videos
● multiple new Photographic Styles with better machine learning to preserve skin tones
● new mode for capturing Spatial Photos that can be viewed in 3D on Apple Vision Pro

To improve the experience when using these new features, Apple is widely expected to add a new 'Camera button' to the iPhone 16 Pro models. This button will be touch sensitive and will enable different actions depending on how you interact with it. A simple press will launch the Camera app or a third camera party app of your choice. A soft press will trigger auto-focus, and a hard press will take a photo or start video recording. Sliding your finger across the surface of the button will adjust zoom or exposure.

Apple is set to unveil its next generation iPhone 16 lineup at a 'It's Glowtime' event on September 9. The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to offer new features, such as a dedicated capture button, faster processors, and slightly larger displays on the Pro models. However, it won't be drastically different from the iPhone 15. You can check out some more of the rumored specs here.

In addition to the iPhone, Apple will likely unveil new Apple Watch models and AirPods at the event. The Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to feature significant updates, including a thinner design and larger displays. The AirPods lineup could get new low-end and mid-tier models, with the mid-tier version gaining noise cancellation for the first time. There may also be an update to AirPods Pro.
