Only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature 12GB of RAM and an upgraded cooling system, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This follows a rumor from earlier this week that appeared to claim all iPhone 17 models would get 12GB of RAM, but Kuo believes that this upgrade will be exclusive to the Pro Max model.
In a post on X, Kuo also predicts that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a new cooling system that combines vapor chamber technology and graphite sheets.
-----
Among the 2025 new iPhone models, only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature the following specifications:
1. 12GB DRAM (while the ultra-thin iPhone, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and SE4 will all have 8GB). Enhanced on-device AI capabilities will likely be a major selling point for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
2. An upgraded cooling system combining vapor chamber (VC) technology and graphite sheets. Other 2025 new iPhone models will continue to use graphite sheets alone for thermal management.
-----
Finally, Kuo notes that the iPhone Pro Max currently accounts for nearly 40% of new iPhone model shipments, making it the most significant contributor to Apple's revenue and profit among all its hardware products. The analyst believes that Apple will continue to differentiate the Pro Max model by offering superior technical specifications, beyond just a larger display size, to maintain its appeal and drive sales in the premium segment.
