Samsung and LG have reportedly begun mass production of OLED display panels for the iPhone 16, according to ETNews.

Samsung Display and LG Display transitioned to mass production of OLED panels for the iPhone 16 series last month. An industry insider familiar with the matter stated, "Both Samsung and LG started initial production of OLED panels for the iPhone 16 in June, and production volumes have significantly increased since last month."

Apple is expected to ship around 90 million units of the iPhone 16 this year; however, Samsung and LG are set to supply around 120 million units, about 33% more. Samsung is forecasted to supply 80 million units this year and LG is expected to supply around 43 million units.

Notably, this is said to be the first time LG has met production schedules for the supply of iPhone OLED panels. In its second-quarter earnings call, LG Display stated, "For the past two years, there were issues with initial supply to major customers, but this year we have established timely mass production and a stable supply system, showing a different aspect compared to the past. We plan to expand panel shipments compared to last year, and through this, we expect significant improvements in revenue and profitability."

For its part, Samsung is supplying approximately 60% of the high value Pro and Pro Max panels, which could increase profitability over last year. Additionally, if BOE fails to obtain supply approval for iPhone 16, Samsung could handle additional supply for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models this year.
