Apple to Discontinue iPhone 17 Plus, Introduce Ultra-Slim Model in 2025 [Kuo]

Apple will discontinue the iPhone Plus model and introduce a new ultra-slim model in 2025, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The Plus model currently accounts for only about 5–10% of total new iPhone shipments. It implies that the other three iPhone models (standard, Pro, and Pro Max) already adequately cover the high-end market segments, making the Plus model redundant.

Kuo believes that the rumored Slim model is not intended to replace the Plus model, but rather explore new design trends beyond the current lineup.

The upcoming ultra-slim iPhone 17 will emphasize innovative design rather than competing solely on hardware specifications. This strategic shift underscores Apple's commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone design.

Here are the specs currently predicted for the ultra-thin iPhone 17:
• Screen Size: Approximately 6.6 inches
• Screen Resolution: Approximately 2,740 x 1,260
• Processor: A19 chip (with the higher-end iPhones using the A19 Pro)
• Dynamic Island Area: Similar to current models
• Metal Frame: Adoption of a titanium-aluminum alloy metal frame, with a lower percentage of titanium than the current Pro and Pro Max metal frames (other iPhone 17 models will use aluminum frames)
• 5G Chip: Apple's in-house 5G chip
• Camera: Single rear wide camera

Notably, these specifications appear to align with a recent leak of key specs and features for Apple's 2025 iPhone lineup.
