Apple Targets 10% Growth in iPhone Sales With AI Upgrades [Report]

Apple aims to ship at least 90 million iPhone 16 devices this year, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The company is purportedly counting on its new AI features, dubbed Apple Intelligence, to drive an increase in demand.

The company told suppliers and partners that it's targeting about 10% growth in shipments of new iPhones compared with their predecessors, a person familiar with the matter said, after shipping about 81 million iPhone 15s in the second half of 2023. The company has grown confident that the addition of some Apple Intelligence features with the iPhone 16 will help boost demand when the model goes on sale late this year, said people with knowledge of the situation, who asked not to be identified because the projections are private.

Apple's new AI features for iOS include intelligent writing tools that help with proofreading, summarizing, and rewriting text across apps. Enhanced notifications prioritize important messages, and the Mail app offers Smart Replies. Visual tools include custom image creation, Genmoji, and memory movies. Siri gets an improved design, richer language understanding, and integration with ChatGPT for enhanced responses. Privacy is emphasized through on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, ensuring data security.

The iPhone 16 is expected to come in four sizes: a 6.1-inch iPhone 16, a 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro, a 6.5-inch iPhone 16 Plus, and a 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 camera is rumored to feature a 48MP (1/1.5", 7P), 3- Stacked lens and 12MP Ultrawide lens (5P), while the iPhone 16 Pro will purportedly feature a 48MP (1/1.3", 7P), 3- Stacked lens, a new 48MP UW (6P AF) lens, and 12MP Tele (Periscope 1G3P) lens. While early predictions claimed the iPhone 16 would have an A17 chip, more recent leaks suggest the entire iPhone 16 lineup will use an A18 chip.
