Apple has announced that macOS Sequoia 15 beta 2 no longer needs twice the free space for App Store app installs.

The company disclosed the change in the developer release notes for build of macOS Sequoia seeded to developers yesterday. Now, installs will only require a small buffer of free space.

Starting in macOS 15, the App Store no longer needs twice the space free for an initial app download and install. The free space requirement will now be the final install size of the app, plus a small buffer. Developers should consider this change in any messaging they might have around size requirements. This change may be benefit to users who have limited storage space on their device or who install extremely large applications or games where double the space for install can become a problem.
