Apple to Withhold AI Tech From Europe Over Regulatory Concerns [Report]

Apple has announced that it will withhold much of its new artificial intelligence (AI) technology from European customers this year over regulatory concerns, reports Bloomberg.

The company announced Friday it would block the release of Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing from users in the EU this year, because the Digital Markets Act allegedly forces it to downgrade the security of its products and services.

"We are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security," Apple said in a statement.

The new comes after a recent statement from Margrethe Vestager, the EU's competition chief, who said Apple has a number of 'very serious' non-compliance issues with the European Union's new Digital Markets Act.

The EU is expected to bring initial charges against Apple before the summer break in August, with more investigations still ongoing.
