Leaked molds for the iPhone 16 lineup have surfaced, allegedly revealing a change to the MagSafe ring used for wireless charging.
The molds were shared by French site ShopSystem. They show the positioning and size of the MagSafe ring on the rear of each device.
Contrary to expectations, the MagSafe ring on the iPhone 16 will not be larger. Our exclusive images indicate that it would actually be thinner than that of the iPhone 15 series models. This reduction in thickness could mean improvements in Apple's wireless charging technology, reducing bulk while maintaining or enhancing charging performance.
The ring itself does not affect charging performance. While Apple could improve charging with the iPhone 16, that would have to do with the wireless charging coil located in the center of the ring. A thinner ring would suggest that Apple has moved to a stronger magnet array. If the outer dimension of the ring is the same as the iPhone 15, this could give Apple slightly more room in the center for a larger coil.
Apple is widely expected to unveil its next generation iPhone 16 lineup this fall. For more updates ahead of release, please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS.
