Apple is now expected to launch its new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in early May, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

While originally expected in March, then April, it now seems like Apple has pushed the tablet's release even further.

The move marks an end to the longest stretch without new models in the history of the iPad, which was first introduced by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 2010. It's been about 18 months since the last updates — a drought that's contributed to already-sluggish demand for tablets. Apple is betting that the new models, with faster chips and revamped accessories, can help spur a renaissance for the category.

The new iPad Pro models are codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721, and will likely feature an OLED display, an M3 chip, a landscape Face ID camera, and compatibility with a redesigned Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.

The new iPad Air will purportedly get an upgraded processor and a new larger 12.9-inch screen size option.

Work on updated software for the tablets, as well as challenges in manufacturing, have allegedly contributed to the delay in release. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates.
