The first beta of iOS 17.4 seeded to developers yesterday contains references to eight new CarPlay apps.

The update comes ahead of the 'Next Generation of CarPlay', which Apple says will be available sometime in 2024.

This next generation of CarPlay is the ultimate iPhone experience for the car. It provides content for all the driver's screens including the instrument cluster. This ensures a cohesive design experience that is the very best of your car and your iPhone — with designs for each automaker that express your vehicle's character and brand. Vehicle functions like radio and temperature controls are handled right from CarPlay. And personalization options ranging from widgets to selecting curated gauge cluster designs make it unique to the driver.

Here's a look at the eight new apps found in iOS 17.4 beta by MacRumors.

New CarPlay Apps
● Auto Settings: This app will let you manage paired iPhones and adjust vehicle settings.
● Car Camera: This app will display the vehicle's rear-view camera feed.
● Charge: For electric vehicles, this app will display battery level, charging status, time remaining until the battery is fully charged, and more.
● Climate: This app will provide access to a vehicle's climate controls within CarPlay, allowing you to adjust the temperature of the A/C or heating system, fan speed, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and more.
● Closures: This app will display if any of the vehicle's doors are opened, and it might also display vehicle warning symbols.
● Media: This app will provide access to FM and AM radio station controls within CarPlay, along with other media options like SiriusXM. It is unclear if SiriusXM will offer satellite connectivity, or remain limited to internet streaming. Users will be able to select from a list of music genres, such as Top 40 and Rock.
● Tire Pressure: This app will display air pressure for each of the vehicle's tires, and provide low pressure, high pressure, and flat tire warnings.
● Trips: This app will provide a variety of driving-related data, including the vehicle's average speed, fuel efficiency or energy efficiency, the total time elapsed and distance traveled on a trip, and more.

● Auto Settings: Manage your paired iPhones and adjust your vehicle's settings.

● Car Camera: View your vehicle's rear-view camera feed.

● Charge: For electric vehicles, monitor the battery level, charging status, estimated time to full charge, and additional information.

● Climate: Control your vehicle's climate settings via CarPlay. Adjust temperature, fan speed, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and more.

● Closures: Check if any doors of the vehicle are open and view potential vehicle warning symbols.

● Media: Access FM and AM radio, along with other media options like SiriusXM, within CarPlay. It's yet to be confirmed if SiriusXM will provide satellite connectivity or stick to internet streaming. Choose from various music genres, including Top 40 and Rock.

● Tire Pressure: Monitor each tire's air pressure, and receive alerts for low or high pressure and flat tires.

● Trips: Track driving-related data such as average speed, fuel or energy efficiency, total time, and distance covered on trips, among other details.

It's unclear if Apple will make any of these apps available to existing vehicles or if they will only be available on new vehicles that support Next Generation CarPlay.

Notably, a new "goodbye" image was also spotted in the beta, hinting that Apple may display the message onscreen when you turn off your vehicle.
