Based on pre-order inventory and shipping times, Apple has sold 160,000 to 180,000 Vision Pro units during its first weekend of sales, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

As predicted, the Vision Pro sold out immediately after the pre-order opened, with shipping times for all models extending to 5–7 weeks within hours. The instant sold-out and extended shipping times seem positive at first, but a key concern emerged: shipping times remained unchanged 48 hours after pre-orders opened. It indicates that demand may quickly taper off after the core fans and heavy users place their orders.

Kuo notes that unlike Vision Pro, iPhone pre-orders tend to see a steady increase in shipping times 24 to 48 hours after pre-orders open, suggesting that demand continues to grow past the initial sell-out period.

There have been some media reports that assembler Luxshare will work overtime during the Lunar New Year to meet demand, hinting at better than expected demand; however, Kuo believes that Luxshare has inefficiencies in its production and that the company has already been working overtime to offset the impact of those inefficiencies.

Finally, Kuo predicts that Apple should be able to achieve a shipment volume of 500,000 units this year, but he cautions against using pre-order sell out as a indicator, as only 0.007% of Apple's 1.2 billion active users would need to purchase a Vision Pro headset to for pre-orders to sell out.

Vision Pro will be released on February 2, 2024. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates on the headset.
