The next generation iPhone 16 will be equipped with more RAM, Wi-Fi 7 support, and a Snapdragon X75 5G modem, according to a new report from Haitong Intl Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu.
Reiterating previous predications, Pu says that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will get 8GB of LPD5 RAM, up from 6GB on the iPhone 15.
Additionally, while the iPhone 16 will support Wi-Fi 6E, the iPhone 16 Pro models are said to get Wi-Fi 7. The new wireless standard offers significantly higher data rates, wider bandwidth utilization, improved multi-link operation, and better efficiency in high-density environments compared to Wi-Fi 6E. Pu suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro may get support for WiFi 7 with an integrated WiFi 7 + Bluetooth + Ultra-wideband solution.
The iPhone 16 will likely feature Qualcomm's SnapDragon X70 5G modem; however, the iPhone 16 Pro will purportedly be upgraded to the X75 modem. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon X75 provides enhanced AI capabilities, improved power efficiency, support for new spectrum bands, and advanced 5G features like satellite communications integration.
Notably, Haitong sees changes to the iPhone 16 specs as minimal; rather, they suggest the key driver of future iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 sales will be software / AI.
"...the key for iPhone 16 to win will be on software/AI. We continue to expect iOS 18/iPhone 16 to feature AI functionalities (but simple) but expect a more well-functioned AI iPhone to be iPhone 17 (2025)."
Apple will likely unveil the next generation iPhone in September as it usually does. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for further updates.
