A redesigned battery for the iPhone 16, that features a metal shell, has allegedly been revealed by leaker Kosutami.

In a post on X, the leaker shared images of the battery, which is purportedly from an iPhone 16 prototype.

Notably, this leak follows an earlier predication by Kosutami that Apple will introduce an improved graphene thermal system to the iPhone 16 that will reduce overheating issues. The metal shell for the battery is said to be part of that system.

Apple has already shifted to a metal shell for the battery in the Apple Watch, starting with Apple Watch Series 5. In the Apple Watch, the metal shell reduces the spacing needed between the battery and other components. Additionally, the electrode assembly is electrically coupled with the housing to form a common ground, this allows other components to contact the battery housing with causing a short circuit or corrosion.
