Apple is planning to overhaul its entire AirPods lineup over the next two years, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
The company will purportedly introduce new entry-level AirPods and AirPods Max next year, followed by new AirPods Pro in 2025.
The changes will include a revamped version of Apple's entry-level AirPods in 2024 and a new Pro model the following year, according to people familiar with the plan. The company is updating the products' earbud design, the look of the cases and audio quality. A new version of the AirPods Max headphones are coming in 2024 as well, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private.
Bloomberg expects that Apple will phase out AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 later next year, replacing them with two AirPods 4 models. Both models are said to feature a new design with short stems that looks like a mix of AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro. They will have an improved fit, but are not expected to feature replaceable tips. The higher-end model will have noise cancellation and an updated charging case with speakers for Find My alerts. AirPods 4 will switch to USB-C from Lightning, matching the new AirPods Pro 2.
The next generation AirPods Max will likely debut around the end of 2024. It will also feature a USB-C charging port and is expected to come in new colors; however, Bloomberg doesn't foresee many other improvements.
Finally, Apple is expected to debut new AirPods Pro in 2025 with a new design and chip. The company is working on health features for that device tied to hearing.
