Apple to Release New Macs This Month [Gurman]

Apple is planning a Mac-centered product launch around the end of October, according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

It's been over 900 days since the 24-inch iMac saw an update, and Gurman believes the desktop is the most likely candidate for a refresh.

Fortunately, a new iMac is finally on the way. As I reported in March, the company has been readying the updated 24-inch iMac — a model that could be out soon. How soon? Well, I'm told that Apple is planning a Mac-centered product launch around the end of this month. That could be its chance to announce this model.

Gurman notes that the iMac is in short supply at Apple's retail stores, as is the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the high-end MacBook Pro. Several configurations list arrival times in mid-November, a sign that an update could be imminent. Since the MacBook Pro already has an M2 processor, an update could potentially mean the introduction of a new M3 processor.

I recently reported that while next-generation MacBook Air models with M3 chips won't launch until 2024, the company has made headway on new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. You'll recall that Apple just released MacBook Pros in January, so an additional update the same year would be unusual, but not inconceivable.

Apple is expected to make its announcement on either October 30 or October 31. That's just a few days before the company reports earnings on November 2.

Finally, Gurman says that Apple hasn't given up on a 32-inch iMac Pro. He believes it will arrive in late 2024 or 2025.
