Apple may announced a third generation Apple Pencil this week, rather than new iPad models, according to a new rumor from Macotakara.
MacOTAKARA believes that instead of updating the iPad itself, the Apple Pencil 3 will be released with a replaceable magnetic tip, as Majin Bu posted on X.
The site's post follows conflicting rumors on whether Apple plans to update the iPad Air, iPad mini, or entry-level iPad this week.
Rumors of an Apple Pencil 3 first surfaced in 2021 with leaker Mr White sharing a photo of the alleged accessory. More recently, code spotted in iOS 17.1 beta 2 by Steve Moser hints at a new Pencil with USB-C connectivity.
The Apple Pencil code includes a string that reads "PENCIL_LOW_BATTERY_ALERT_MESSAGE" - "Connect to USB-C to recharge soon."
Moser also notes that there have been rumors that Apple Pencil 3 could include features such as haptic feedback, color sampling, a Digital Crown cap, and different nibs with unique features that magnetically attach.
