Apple's iPhone 16 Pro models will adopt a stacked-designed CIS, as will this year's standard iPhone 15 models, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a recent post, Kuo notes this change will be beneficial to Will Semi.

Following two 2H23 iPhone 15 standard models, two 2H24 iPhone 16 Pro models will also adopt stacked-designed CIS, so Sony's high-end CIS capacity will continue to be tight in 2024, benefiting Will Semi to continue to obtain more orders for high-end CIS from Chinese smartphone brands (design- in & design-win).

Kuo expects the tight capacity of Sony's high-end CIS to result in Will Semi's total CIS and high-end CIS shipments growing by about 15–20% YoY and 40–50% YoY, respectively.

Recently, a rumor on Weibo claimed that Apple will equip the iPhone 16 Pro Max with an ultra long telephoto lens. It's unclear exactly how powerful this telephoto lens would be; however, an ultra-telephoto lens could reach up to 12X optical zoom. Additionally, the purported leak predicts that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a larger 1/1.14 camera sensor versus the current 1/1.28-inch sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
