Apple is 'highly likely' to unveil its long rumored AR/MR headset at WWDC in June, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a research note, Kuo says Apple is 'well prepared' for the announcement of the new device and suggests its unveiling at WWDC will bode well for supply chain share price.
Apart from the assembly (exclusive to Luxshare-ICT), micro OLED display (exclusive to Sony), dual processors (exclusive to TSMC), casing (Everwin Precision as the main supplier), 12 camera modules (exclusive to Cowell), and external power supply (exclusive to Goretek) are the top 5 most expensive material costs for this new device. Cowell is the largest beneficiary in terms of revenue and profit contribution to suppliers due to its smallest revenue size.
Additionally, Kuo notes that the headset could become the most important new investment trend in consumer electronics if Apple is able to deliver a better than expected announcement.
Kuo had previously expressed concerns that Apple's headset is the industry's 'last hope' to convince investors of AR/VR headset potential, but today's note sounds more optimistic. Notably, it follows a tweet from Oculus founder Palmer Luckey earlier today that proclaims, "The Apple headset is so good." Unfortunately, Luckey didn't elaborate or even confirm that he had seen the device.
Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is set for June 5 - 9 this year with a special in-person event on June 5. It appears probable that the 'Reality Pro' headset will be unveiled during the June 5 keynote, giving developers time to create some interesting applications before the device launches later in the year.
