The next generation Apple Watch Series 9 could feature a new SiP (System in Package) based on the A15 chip, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a conversation on Discord, Gurman says he believes that Apple will update the Apple Watch with a processor that isn't simply a rebrand of the previous generation.

iMacmatician: Isn't the 9 supposed to have a new SoC?
gurman: Yep - the new ones are due for the updated SoC.

gurman: I think it'll be a new processor, not just a re-brand of the previous generation

Mike101333: @gurman do you think the new processor for watch is based on the A15 chip?
gurman: yes, I believe it is!

Although Apple released new S6, S7, and S8 SiPs with the Series 6, Series 7, and Series 8 smartwatches, they are all based on the A13 processor that debuted in the iPhone 11. Introducing an S9 SiP based on the A15 is sure to boost performance for watchOS 10.

It's likely that Apple will unveil the new Apple Watch Series 9 this fall, alongside the iPhone 15. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more leaks ahead of launch!
