Apple is set to open its first flagship store in Mumbai, India next month, followed shortly after by a second store in New Delhi, according to The Economic Times.
The Mumbai store is said to be over 22,000 sq ft in size and will be located in Reliance Industries' premium Jio World Drive mall. The store will be a retail landmark similar to other standout stores in Los Angeles, New York, Beijing, Milan and Singapore.
Sources tell the site that fitouts are complete for both stores.
"Fitouts are completed for both the stores," the person said. "In fact, the fitout was completed for the Delhi store ahead of the Mumbai one."
"But since Mumbai will be the flagship Apple Store in India, it will open first next month. The Delhi one will open soon after," said the industry executive.
Apple began hiring for the stores back in January.
"We're looking for people who get great satisfaction from helping people develop lifelong relationships with Apple every day. The Apple Store is a retail environment like no other -- uniquely focused on delivering amazing customer experiences," said a listing.
Apple's new India stores arrive as the company pushes to increase manufacturing in the country as an alternative to its dependence on China. For example, a recent report claims Foxconn has landed an order to build AirPods for Apple in India and will construct a $200 million plant to do so.
