Meta has announced that it is dropping the price of its 'Meta Quest Pro' virtual reality headset by $500. That brings its price down from $1499.99 to $999.99.

Additionally, the company is also dropping the price of the 256GB 'Meta Quest 2' VR headset from $499.99 to $429.99.

Our goal has always been to create hardware that's affordable for as many people as possible to take advantage of all that VR has to offer. That's why we pioneered the first standalone headsets with inside-out tracking, letting people experience the freedom of wireless VR without the need for a separate PC or game console. While we aren't lowering the price of Meta Quest 2's 128GB SKU, a new lower price for 256GB of storage will let even more people feel the joy of fully immersive games and experiences. Similarly, by lowering the price of Meta Quest Pro, we're making our industry-leading Meta Reality technology and Infinite Display optical stack available to even more businesses and professionals around the world.

Pricing changes will go into effect for the 256GB Meta Quest 2 SKU on March 5 in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK, and the US.

The Meta Quest Pro price drop will take effect March 5 in the US and Canada and March 15 in all other countries where Meta Quest Pro is supported.

Notably, Meta's price drops come ahead of Apple's rumored headset launch at WWDC 2023. Current rumors suggest Apple's first headset will be a premium device costing as much as $3000.
