BOE is expected to supply 6.1-inch OLED display panels for the rumored iPhone SE 4, reports The Elec.
According to the industry on the 3rd, BOE is expected to supply 6.1-inch organic light emitting diode (OLED) for the low-end iPhone SE4, which is expected to be released next year. The iPhone SE series has so far only been released as a liquid crystal display (LCD) model, but next year's model is likely to be applied with OLED.
The Elec also notes that Samsung and LG Display are less interested in competing to supply panels for the iPhone SE 4 as its panel will cost less than half that of the panel used on iPhone Pro Max models.
Since the OLED for iPhone SE4 is a panel for legacy models and a low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin film transistor (TFT) product with low technical difficulty, Samsung Display and LG Display are less interested in the model. The price of OLED for the 6.1-inch iPhone SE4 is currently estimated to be around $40. Compared to the price of OLED for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, which uses low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin film transistor (TFT), it costs well over $100, $40 is less than half. It is known that the price of LTPO method OLED is twice that of LTPS method OLED of the same size.
Last month, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple had restarted development of a new iPhone SE 4 that will likely feature a 6.1-inch OLED display and Apple's long awaited in-house 5G modem. The baseband chip will reportedly be produced on a 4nm process and only support Sub-6GHz networks.
