Apple has purportedly pushed back the unveiling of its mixed reality headset from April to June, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Sources tell the site that the headset could now be unveiled at WWDC 2023.

The iPhone maker is now aiming to unveil the product at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are confidential. Apple made the decision to delay the launch earlier this month after product testing showed that both hardware and software issues still needed to be ironed out, they said.

Apple was originally rumored to unveil the headset last June, but the launch was allegedly delayed to January 2023, then to spring 2023, and now back to June 2023. To help resolve remaining issues, former hardware chief Dan Riccio has become increasingly involved in the project. The company is trying to fix problems with sensors on the device to enable the hand and eye control mechanism. It's also trying to find the right balance between battery life and performance.

Although the timing could change again, Apple is reportedly intent on bringing the device to market this year. The mixed reality headset is said to cost around $3000 and feature a new xrOS operating system that offers a 3D-like iPhone interface with apps like Messages, Mail, Safari, and TV. Customers will be able to use their headsets to stream video, run apps, video conference, and more.

Back in January, a leak reportedly revealed numerous new details about the device including that it will supposedly feature a waist mounted battery, a digital crown, an H2 chip, and much more.
