Apple is still working to bring reverse wireless charging capabilities to the iPhone despite the feature not debuting on the iPhone 14, reports 9to5Mac.
Sources say that Apple had hoped to include full support for reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but the feature wasn't finalized in time for that launch. Despite missing this target, Apple engineers are still working on the feature and hope to debut it in a future iPhone.
Apple engineers have purportedly been working on a "wireless power out" firmware version that supports reverse charging. Speed, efficiency, and heat dissipation are key aspects of bilateral charging that are being tested.
Additionally, the company is working on an interface for reverse wireless charging that looks similar to the one used for MagSafe chargers and accessories. It's said to include on-screen animations and a sound effect to indicate bilateral charging has been initiated.
As usual, it's unclear if Apple will have the feature ready for the upcoming iPhone 15 or if it will happen at all; however, the ability to charge AirPods using an iPhone would be a great selling feature and it's one that the Samsung Galaxy S23 already has.
