Conflicting rumors have surfaced this week regarding Apple's plans for a future foldable device.
Yesterday, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would release a foldable iPad in 2024 with a carbon fiber kickstand. Additionally, he revealed the company had an update to the iPad mini scheduled for early 2024.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman confirmed the iPad mini update, redesigned OLED iPad Pros and a new entry level iPad, but said he'd not heard anything about a foldable iPad in 2024.
The additions in the iPad lineup will be the redesigned OLED iPad Pros in 2024 + entry level and Mini spec bumps. As I wrote before, 2023 will be a light year for the iPad (and Watch). Also not hearing anything about a foldable iPad in 2024.
Now, Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has chimed in saying that he's also not heard about a foldable iPad for 2024, but he's heard about a foldable 20.5-inch notebook for 2025.
Have heard about a 20.5" foldable notebook for 2025, but nothing about a foldable iPad for 2024. Maybe this is just good PR for the hinge company…
