The base of Apple's new HomePod 2 will still stain your wooden surfaces, reports YouTuber Marques Brownlee.
After the release of the first generation HomePod numerous customers were dismayed to find that the speaker's base had left a white ring on their furniture. The company later confirmed the possibility, calling it 'not unusual'.
It is not unusual for any speaker with a vibration-dampening silicone base to leave mild marks when placed on some wooden surfaces. The marks can be caused by oils diffusing between the silicone base and the table surface, and will often go away after several days when the speaker is removed from the wooden surface. If not, wiping the surface gently with a soft damp or dry cloth may remove the marks. If marks persist, clean the surface with the furniture manufacturer's recommended cleaning process. If you're concerned about this, we recommend placing your HomePod on a different surface.
Despite a redesigned base, it appears the HomePod still leaves a white ring on wooden furniture; however, it's not as pronounced as the original.
"Naturally, we tried the same thing with the new one, which does have a bit of a redesigned base to spread out that surface area and it takes longer, but it actually still does stain with a slightly different pattern, but it does in fact still stain wooden tables", says Brownlee.
So, if you're purchasing a white HomePod, be aware that leaving it on wooden furniture is probably not a good idea.
