Foxconn has begun trial production of the iPhone 15 at its Shenzhen Guanlan factory, according to new report from UDN.

The iPhone 15 has purportedly entered the NPI (New Product Introduction) phase during which Foxconn will prepare the bill of materials (BOM), establish proper production and testing machines, and set a quality monitoring process.

After starting trial production, the foundry needs to collect data, correct abnormalities, evaluate the production process and items that need to be improved, and evaluate whether the trial-produced product is acceptable. After the trial-produced product needs to be improved, the follow-up can start Mass production, that is, NPI is the early stage of mass production. As for the foundry that has received NPI, it is the number one supplier of the iPhone, and those that have not received NPI are the secondary suppliers.

UDN notes that this year's NPI is somewhat different from previous years as the gap between mass production of the iPhone 15 in China and India will be much shorter. Previously, the gap was about six to nine months. This year it's expected to be just a few weeks.

Apple is likely to unveil its new iPhone 15 models this fall. We are expecting a 6.1-inch iPhone 15, 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro. All four models are said to feature Apple's Dynamic Island, a USB-C port, and Qualcomm's 5G Snapdragon X70 modem.

The iPhone 15 Pro is may feature a titanium frame and solid state volume and power buttons featuring haptic feedback from two additional Taptic Engines. The iPhone Pro models will allegedly get 8GB of RAM, up from 6GB in the iPhone 14 Pro.

Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro could utilize an A17 Bionic chip made with TSMC's 3nm process while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus should stick with the A16 Bionic and 6GB of RAM. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely feature a periscope telephoto lens for better optical zoom while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could get a 48MP rear camera lens.
