Although initially expected to launch in 2Q23, Apple may postpone the release of its widely rumored mixed reality headset until 3Q23, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The delay is allegedly due to issues with drop testing and availability of software development tools.

Apple's AR/MR headset development is behind schedule due to issues with mechanical component drop testing and the availability of software development tools, meaning that mass shipment of this device may postpone from the original 2Q23 to the end of 2Q23 or 3Q23.

Kuo now expects Apple to unveil the device in Spring or at WWDC 2023.

As a result, it is increasingly unlikely that Apple will hold a media event for the new device in January. At this point, it seems more likely that Apple will announce the AR/MR headset at a spring media event or WWDC based on the current development progress.

Despite the delay, Apple's headset does appear to be moving towards launch. A recent report revealed numerous new details about the device including that it will allegedly feature a waist mounted battery, a digital crown, an H2 chip, and much more.
