These are instructions on how to change the existing passcode on your iPhone.
For better security, a passcode needs to be entered to unlock iPhone when you turn it on or wake it. Setting a passcode also turns on data protection, which encrypts your iPhone data with 256-bit AES encryption.
Here's how to change your iPhone passcode.
Tap to open Settings from your SpringBoard.
Tap Face ID & Passcode from the Settings menu. On a phone with a Home button, tap Touch ID & Passcode.
Input your current passcode.
Scroll down and tap the Change Passcode button. If you don't already have an iPhone password set, you can tap Turn Passcode On.
Enter your old passcode once more.
Now enter your new passcode.
Or, if you would like to set a custom alphanumeric code, a custom numeric code, or a 4 digit passcode, tap Passcode Options. Then tap Custom Alphanumeric Code, Custom Numeric, or 4-Digit Numeric Code and enter your new passcode.
Note: If you enter a passcode that Apple determines is too common, it will display the following alert:
This Passcode Can Be Easily Guess
Your passcode will be used to unlock this iPhone and to protect access to your data stored in iCloud.
Tap Change Passcode and set a more complex password.
Input your passcode once more to verify it.
That's it! You've now successfully changed your iPhone's passcode.
● Setting a passcode on your iPhone is an important security measure that can help protect personal information and data stored on your smartphone. If you don't set a passcode, anyone who has physical access to your iPhone can access your emails, text messages, photos, calendar, and more. An iPhone passcode should prevent a thief or snoop from reading anything but the data shown on your lock screen.
● Apple no longer recommends setting a four digit passcode. Although this is a more convenient passcode type, it's much easier to guess and brute force crack.
● For enhanced security, we recommend that you can change the passcode on your iPhone regularly and don't use the same password for all your devices.
While we don't recommend this, you can find instructions on how to turn off your iPhone's passcode here:
