Apple is developing a foldable 20-inch OLED display, likely for a future MacBook model, according to a new report from TheElec. The display allegedly measures 20.25-inches when opened and 15.3-inches when folded.

The site believes that Apple won't consider releasing a foldable display until after its iPads and MacBooks make the switch to OLED.

It is expected that it will take time for Apple's product commercialization plan for the early 20-inch foldable project to materialize. This is because Apple is highly likely to apply the foldable form factor to the product line only after expanding the application of organic light emitting diode (OLED) to IT products such as iPad and MacBook. Currently, except for iPhones and Apple Watches, all other IT products such as iPads, Macbooks, and iMacs (PCs) use only LCD panels.

It's rumored that Apple will release an OLED 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro in 2024 with an OLED MacBook to follow in 2026. However, TheElec suggests that Apple could release a foldable iPad mini in 2025.

In light of the standard that Apple will apply a foldable form factor after adopting OLED for a specific IT product line, the possibility that an iPad-shaped foldable product will be released before the early 20-inch foldable product cannot be ruled out. The observation that Apple is developing a foldable IT product that can replace the iPad mini lineup of less than 10 inches is still continuing, with the goal of 2025, the year after 2024 when Apple releases its first OLED iPad.

Finally, the site says the possibility of Apple releasing a foldable iPhone is low as there's little benefit to the form factor.
