Elon Musk says he will make an alternative phone if Apple and Google attempt to ban Twitter from their respective app stores.
Musk made the comment in reply to video podcast host Liz Wheeler, who tweeted...
"If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?"
Musk replied...
I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone
The exchange follows a report from Yoel Roth, former Head of Trust and Safety at Twitter. Roth says the real barrier to Musk allowing free speech on the platform is Apple and Google. Both are said to wield enormous influence over Twitter, shaping the decisions the company makes.
Notably, Musk has already reversed the plan to allow blue check users without verification. Starting next week, the site will roll out a new multi-colored Verified check that will feature manual authentication.
