Apple has expressed interested in buying the Manchester United football club, according to a new report from the Daily Star.

The site claims the deal would be worth £5.8billion.

United owners the Glazers have decided to sell the club after caving in to the demands of those fans who have wanted them ousted. The American billionaires will sell the club to the highest bidder - and bosses of Apple have expressed an interest in discussing a potential deal.

Tim Cook is allegedly "keen to explore the opportunities owning United could provide" and will line up talks with the banks assigned to oversee the sale. This would include The Raine Group.

Additionally, the report says part of Cook's plan for the club could include funding a new state-of-the-art stadium that would be the best in the world.

The Glazers bought Manchester United in 2005 but have become unpopular with fans and have purportedly decided to sell. They initially set an asking price of £8.25billion but were told that is unrealistic in the current market.

The move seems out of character for Apple but the company often explores potential revenue streams and could be looking to expand viewership for the Apple TV+ streaming service. Earlier this month, the company announced that MLS Season Pass will launch February 1, 2023 on Apple TV+ in over 100 countries and regions.
