Telegram CEO Urges Regulators to Take Action Before Apple 'Destroys More Dreams'

Telegram CEO Urges Regulators to Take Action Before Apple 'Destroys More Dreams'

Posted October 28, 2022 at 4:13pm by iClarified
Telegram Messenger CEO Pavel Durov has once again spoken out against Apple's 'abusive practices', urging regulators to take action before Apple 'destroys more dreams and crushes more entrepreneurs'.

Durov also announced that Telegram would be disabling paid posts on iOS due to Apple's demand that it get a 30% cut from creators.

-----
Some content creators started using third-party payment bots to sell access to individual posts in their Telegram channels. This way, content creators could receive close to 100% of whatever their subscribers paid, which was great.

Unfortunately, we received word from Apple that they were not happy with content creators monetizing their efforts without paying a 30% tax to Apple. Since Apple has complete control over its ecosystem, we had no alternative but to disable such paid posts on iOS devices.

This is just another example of how a trillion-dollar monopoly abuses its market dominance at the expense of millions of users who are trying to monetize their own content. I hope that the regulators in the EU, India and elsewhere start taking action before Apple destroys more dreams and crushes more entrepreneurs with a tax that is higher than any government-levied VAT.

In the meantime, we at Telegram shall work to offer creators powerful and easy-to-use tools to monetize their content – outside of Apple's restrictive ecosystem.
-----

Earlier this year, the European Union passed its new Digital Services act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA) which will significantly change how app stores from Apple, Google, and others can operate. However, that legislation won't start coming into effect until next year.

So Apple should stop using its Free Market Capitalism model and earning profits on its products and ecosystem to go socialist. When Microsoft monopolized or tried to monopolize world of computing no one complained. Telegram, even with the 30% fees will earn more with Apple than any where else. Looks like Telegram is the greedy whining baby in this story. Maybe Telegram should build an ecosystem like Apple did. For those with short memories Apple was about dead in the water in the 90's and they climbed from the bottom to the top with hard work and innovation.

Funny how you think if a company charges more it will help you as a consumer.

That's not the point. Even though your point is well out of touch.

Whats the point, that you are always right and nobody can say anything against your point? Or that you are uneducated and spend a lot of time on instagram or twitter or facebook?
