Meta Targets Apple With New Ad Touting Privacy of WhatsApp Over iMessage

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is targeting Apple over the privacy of iMessage, its messaging application for iOS and macOS.

A new ad at Penn Station features a green bubble, a blue bubble, and a private bubble with the caption, "Protect your personal messages across devices with end-to-end encryption."

Additionally, on Instagram, Zuckerberg notes that iMessage is not secure when communicating with Android users and it does not have end-to-end encrypted backups.


WhatsApp is far more private and secure than iMessage, with end-to-end encryption that works across both iPhones and Android, including group chats. With WhatsApp you can also set all new chats to disappear with the tap of a button. And last year we introduced end-to-end encrypted backups too. All of which iMessage still doesn't have.



Apple's iMessage has come under recent attack from Google as well. The company wants Apple to implement support for RCS; however, it seems unlikely that Apple will do so anytime soon.
