Apple to Use Space Between iPhone 14 Pro 'Pill + Hole' Cutouts for Privacy Indicators [Report]

Apple plans to use the space between the 'pill + hole' cutouts on the iPhone 14 Pro to display privacy indicators, according to 9to5Mac sources.

Earlier today, several reports surfaced claiming Apple plans to turn off the pixels between the pill and hole cutouts during use, turning them into 'one wide pill'.

Building on that prediction, 9to5Mac believes that the dead space between the cutouts will show green and orange dots to indicate when the camera and microphone are in use.

The “dead space” between the two display cutouts on the iPhone 14 Pro will be used to show these green and yellow privacy indicators. Apple’s goal, according to our source, is to make the experience more similar to a MacBook, which features an always-visible green LED when the camera is in use.

This will also allow Apple to show both the green and orange dots simultaneously, rather than just the green dot when the camera is accessed. Users may also be able to tap the indicators to see which applications are using the camera and microphone.

Finally, the site's sources say that Apple has redesigned the Camera app, moving most of the controls to the top of the screen. The flash button and Live Photo button are purportedly in the status bar and additional setting options are now found below the cutouts. You can see a mockup of these changes below.

Apple is set to unveil its new iPhone 14, 'iPhone 14 Plus', iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max at an upcoming 'Far Out' special event on September 7. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for the latest updates.
