Apple could announce a big price increase for the iPhone this fall, warns Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives.
"We believe a $100 price increase is coming for the iPhone 14," Dan, of Wedbush Securities, told The Sun. "Prices have been increasing across the whole supply chain, and Cupertino needs to pass these costs to the consumer on this release."
Notably, this is a tricky proposition for Apple because the company is also rumored to be discontinuing the iPhone mini. That means that the starting price for a current generation iPhone would actually jump $200, a huge increase. Apple also has to consider the ever rising cost of living which could also affect its sales.
Currently, the iPhone 13 mini starts at $699 and the iPhone 13 starts at $799. A $100 price increase would have the iPhone 14 lineup start at $899.
"Apple will have some tough decisions to make on pricing on iPhone 14," said Ben, of CCS Insight. "There is no question that production and component costs continue to rise for all consumer electronics makers, and in the case of the UK, exchange rates are a factor too. These elements would suggest a price rise may be necessary. But given the cost of living head-winds Apple may decide that increasing prices could be counterproductive."
Apple is widely expected to unveil four new iPhone 14 models this fall including an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It's believed the iPhone 14 Pro will get an A16 processor, a 'pill + hole' cutout design, a 48MP wide camera, a larger camera bump, an autofocus selfie camera, and rounder corners. The iPhone 14 is expected to keep the A15 processor and current notch.
