Apple is preparing to unveil its new iOS 16 mobile operating system at WWDC 2022. The update will be a fairly significant one, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

Apple is purportedly planning major enhancements for the lockscreen, including wallpapers, widget-like capabilities, and always-on support. That means that similar to new Apple Watches, supported iPhones would be able to turn down the frame rate and display information without using excessive battery life.

I’m told to expect the always-on mode as an exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, codenamed D73 and D74, if the feature ends up making the cut. As I’ve discussed previously, other iPhone 14 Pro features include a new front-facing camera and Face ID cutout, an A16 chip and a 48-megapixel back camera. There’s also the possibility of sending emergency texts over satellite networks.

Other predictions:
● Major changes to windowing and multitasking, especially on the iPad.
● Messages to gain more social network-like functionality with improvements to audio messages.
● Health app to get new features that work with iPhone and Apple Watch, likely won't expand to iPad and Mac.
● tvOS for Apple TV set to get smart home enhancements
● macOS to overhaul System Preferences, some redesigned apps

It's unclear if Apple will unveil any new hardware at WWDC; however, there has been some speculation that we could see a new MacBook Air with an M2 chip. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates.
