iPhone developer Nico Becherer releases Face Melter XXL for iPad, the latest installment of the highly popular Face Melter series (> 500.000 downloads. Placed #2 in the iTunes Top 100). Face Melter XXL (for iPad) is the latest and most advanced installment of the popular Face Melter series that was a huge success on the iPhone/iPod touch (Face Melter was placed #2 in the iTunes Top 100 in November 2008, stayed in Entertainment Top 100 for more than 15 months).
"When we first developed Face Melter for the iPhone, it was like discovering new frontiers", says Nico Becherer, developer of the iPhone app that has been downloaded more than 500.000 times since. "What we were most interested in was bringing amazing technologies to new devices. There was very little advertising done at all and the appstore was the perfect place for ideas to grow and creativity to flourish. Nowadays, this has changed - apps have to bring a lot to the table to raise to the top and to spur interest in people. We think, that we've done exactly that with Face Melter XXL".
Face Melter XXL is an app that lets users mess around with pictures in high resolution and with up to 3 fingers multi touch gestures. One just pinches, pulls and rotates to see faces "melt away". The underlying technology is, according to the developer, one of the most advanced and fast free form deformation engines that is used in current days 2D computer graphics. It was partially developed as part of the developers PHD thesis.
Face Melter XXL also features a complete keyframe animation system for movie animations that can be played back at various speed and can even be uploaded to YouTube or sent as an .avi file via E-Mail (VLC Player is required for playback). Upload to Flickr and access to the iPads photo library is also available. Currently there are around 1.500 images made with Face Melter available on Flickr and YouTube features more than 500 videos that were generated with Face Melter Pro.
