Apple has delayed its timeline for workers to return to the office citing a resurgence in COVID cases, reports Bloomberg.

The company informed employees Tuesday that it’s delaying the requirement, which had been slated to go into effect on May 23, according to a memo seen by Bloomberg. However, the company is still expecting workers to come to the office two days per week. The company said the requirement is being delayed for “the time being” and didn’t provide a new date.

Prior to the announcement, employees were to begin working from the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, starting next week. Currently, employees have to work from the office for two days a week. That isn't changing. However, Silicon Valley staff have been told they must once again wear masks in common areas.

Additionally, retail employees at about 100 U.S. stores will also be forced to wear masks again. That requirement had been dropped in March.

Many employees have complained about having to return to the office over the past few months, wishing to work from home on a permanent basis. Some have left the company over the policy, including Apple's Director of Machine Learning, Ian Goodfellow.
