MMISoftware has announced the release of bodyCal2 1.0 for the Apple iPad. bodyCal2 is a health and fitness calculator, and data tracker, for the iPad. With bodyCal2 you can calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI), and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), and record any daily changes in these values.

Your BMI is a general indicator of your health, and it is widely recognised that if your BMI is above or below certain values you are at increased risk of developing certain conditions. For example, a BMI above 30, which is classed as being clinically obese, has been linked to increased chances of developing diabetes, cancer and heart disease. Your BMI is directly linked to your weight, and your height.

Your BMR is the amount of energy you require to maintain your current weight if you did not perform any physical activity. Your BMR is calculated using your height, weight, age and sex, and the total energy (calories) your body needs per day to maintain its current weight depends on your BMR and your level of physical activity. Knowing your BMR and your level of physical activity allows you to calculate your daily calorie requirement, therefore allowing you to plan your calorie controlled diet to either maintain your current weight, or to help you lose weight.

With bodyCal2 you can calculate your BMI and your BMR using a range of different units - imperial or metric. Height can be entered as feet (ft) and inches (in), or as meters (m). Weight can be in kilograms (kilos; kg), pounds (lb), or stone (st) and pounds (lb). bodyCal2 will also convert between the different units, so if you know your height in feet and inches, and your weight in kilos you can enter the values and the calculator will perform the necessary conversions, and calculate your BMI and BMR values.

Your BMR is dependent on height, weight, age and sex. Your daily energy requirement (calories needed) to maintain weight is dependent on your BMR and your level of physical activity. bodyCal2 will not only calculate your BMR, but it will also calculate energy requirements for sedentary, lightly active, moderately active, very active and extra active lifestyles.

bodyCal2 can also be used to track changes in your BMI and BMR, with the results displayed on a graph, and shown as a summary for the day. As bodyCal2 remembers the last set of data you entered, monitoring your weight change over time is easy as all you have to do is enter your new weight value and bodyCal2 will automatically calculate your new BMI and BMR values.

bodyCal2 is easy to use, and is an ideal iPad App for weight watchers, people monitoring their diet, and people in training, to record changes in their weight and energy requirement over time.

Pricing and Availability:
bodyCal2 1.0 is $2.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Healthcare & Fitness category.
