Apple has made a portable iPhone repair tool kit available for rent as part of the company's Self Service Repair program.
The kit is detailed on the new Self Service Repair Store and it's no joke. It consists of two roller cases with contents customized to your iPhone model.
When stacked on top of each other, the cases measure 20 inches wide and 47 inches high. One case weighs 43 pounds and the other weighs 36 pounds. They are so heavy that Apple provides eight steps of instructions on how to lift them.
Here's what inside each case for an iPhone 13 Pro Max repair...
Case 1
661-17619 - Heated Display Removal Fixture
661-22310 - Heated Display Pocket
Case 2
923-02657 - Battery Press
661-08916 - Display Press
923-06597 - 6.7-inch Repair Tray
923-01092 - Adhesive Cutter
922-5065 - Nylon Probe (Black Stick)
923-06601 - Display Adhesive Press Plate
923-04880 - Display Protective Cover
923-06622 - Back Protective Cover
923-0248 - Black Torque Driver Kit
923-00738 - Gray Torque Driver
923-00105 - Green Torque Driver
923-0448 - Blue Torque Driver
923-01290 - Micro Stix Bit
923-02066 - Super screw Bit
Notably, Apple provides these tools for purchase on its new store; however, they will set you back around $1000. A rental gives you use of the kit for $49, delivered to your door by UPS; however, you will need to drop it off at a UPS Store by day seven to avoid a non-return fee.
More details on the toolkit rental can be found here.
