Samsung is working to develop a new under panel camera technology for Apple that will allow the company to hide Face ID under the display of the iPhone 15 Pro, reports The Elec.

Samsung Display’s technology is expected to apply first to Samsung Electronics’ foldable phones launching next year, followed by application to the Pro lineup on the iPhone 15 series, sources said.

The site says Apple will use both hole-display and under panel Face ID for the iPhone 15 Pro. Hole-display means that the display has a hole on the panel for the front facing camera, similar to the Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Apple is purportedly planning to use this technology for the iPhone 14 Pro models which are rumored to have both hole and pill-shaped cutouts.

Samsung has purportedly been collaborating with Canada's OTI Lumionics for its new under panel camera technology which includes a metal patterning layer that uses cathode mask materials. This technology will let Apple hide the Face ID sensor while not in use.

Notably, LG is also working on under panel camera technology, aiming to increase the light transmittance rate of the hole to over 40% by 2024.
