Managers from Porsche travelled to the United States late last year to meet with Apple and discuss possible joint projects, reports Reuters.

Porsche's Chief Executive Oliver Blume disclosed the trip during an annual results video conference today. Porsche also met with some other tech companies on the trip.

"We already have Apple CarPlay, we will expand on that," Chief Executive Oliver Blume said. He also noted that Porsche and Apple traditionally cooperate closely and remarked that they were "on the same wavelength". However, he said it was too soon to make any decisions on future projects.

Apple has long has been rumored to working to develop its own autonomous electric vehicle. The company has been seeking out prospective partners and it's possible that Porsche could be one of them. Last year, Apple poached the company's VP of Chassis Development Dr. Manfred Harrer to work on the Apple Car team.

More recent rumors seem to indicate that Apple is leaning towards using a contract manufacturer for its vehicle, similar to how it produces iPhones. Initially, this could be a company like Magna, although Foxconn and Luxshare are already angling for orders.

An aggressive goal of production by 2025 has purportedly been targeted; however, it's said that the Apple Car team will need to get reorganized if it plans to meet that goal.
