Apple to Stop Including EarPods With iPhone in France

Apple will no longer include earphones with the purchase of an iPhone in France as of January 24, 2022, reports Consomac.

Apple stopped including EarPods or a charger in the box with the iPhone 12, allegedly due to environmental concerns. However, in France, the company was forced to continue including earphones. This was due to a health law that aimed to address concerns over RF radiation from a device placed close to your brain.

That law has been now been overridden by a new environmental law aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of digital technology in France.

Fnac issued the following (roughly translated) notice to customers about the change.

DEAR CUSTOMERS

We inform you that smartphone makers are no longer required to deliver headphones/hands-free kits with their smartphones in France.

This new law, adopted at the end of 2021, aims to reduce the environmental footprint of digital in France.

Concerning the Xiaomi brand, for products purchased from the week of January 17, 2022.

It will be the same for the Apple brand, beginning the week of January 24, 2022.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING

You can purchase EarPods separately for $19.
