T-Mobile Blocking iCloud Private Relay for Some Users Due to Conflict With Its Own Services

T-Mobile is blocking iCloud Private Relay for some users due to a conflict with its own content filtering services, reports tmo.report.

Following a report from the Telegraph today that EU operators were seeking to have iCloud Private Relay banned, some T-Mobile users in the U.S. discovered that the feature was blocked on their devices. It now appears this is due to an incompatibility with services that users may have on their account, rather than a deliberate block.

An internal document reveals that iCloud Private Relay will not work for users that have T-Mobile's Web Guard feature or any other content filtering feature enabled on their account. With iCloud Privacy Relay enabled, T-Mobile would not be able to provide those services.

T-Mobile customers with the Web Guard feature, Sprint customers who have content filtering enabled and other customers with content filtering on their rate plan (i.e. Home Office Internet) will not be able to enable iCloud Private Relay and will receive a device notification that their current rate plane does not support iCloud Private Relay.

In order for a customer to use iCloud Private Relay, T-Mobile says they will need to remove any content filtering features from their account.
