Apple CEO Tim Cook has sent a memo to employees delaying the company's corporate return to office deadline from February 1st to a 'date yet to be determined', reports Bloomberg.
“We are delaying the start of our hybrid work pilot to a date yet to be determined,” Cook said in the memo. “Our offices remain open and many of our colleagues are coming in regularly, including our teams in Greater China and elsewhere.”
He cited “rising cases in many parts of the world and the emergence of a new strain of the virus” as reasons for the delay. Apple has also restored its mask mandate to all U.S. retail stores and closed down three locations temporarily due to rising cases among employees.
Notably, Cook also revealed that Apple will provide each employee a $1,000 bonus to be used for work-from-home needs. The bonus “in support of our commitment to a more flexible environment” will also be provided to retail workers.
“These funds are intended to help you with your home workspace and can be used as you see fit. You will be receiving more information about this shortly,” he said.
Apple will provide workers at least four weeks notice before a new return to office deadline.
